Workplace / HSBC
‘Liaison with the Soulful team was key to the project’s success and their attention to detail when creating the murals was impressive given the scale of the task and the condition of the site. Overall our initial design intent was surpassed by 2 very different murals which captured the brief brilliantly and have really caught the imagination of the end users who are generally over the moon by the result.
Thank you Mark and the team for producing such a visually impactful mural which I am sure will be discussed for many more years to come.’

The Brief /
Sheffield city centre is currently undergoing a huge regeneration programme.
As part of the city improvements, some huge industry names have participated by investing in office and retail spaces and buildings. HSBC Bank being one, have just completed a brand new purpose built office in Sheffield’s city centre.
Soulful Creative were commissioned by Axis Architecture on behalf of HSBC to help bring to life their vision for the aerial meeting pod that is located within the office atrium. We were tasked to create a visually stimulating nature themed mural on the outside of the pod, with the inside to have a sports related theme that captures the local area and the sports that take place in a fun and engaging way.
In addition to this, we were tasked to design and illustrate the glass manifestation which forms part of the four stories of glass that surround the atrium.
Our Solution /
For the pod exterior we designed a bright playful oversized British wildflower illustrative mural, which is very naïve in its look and feel. We wanted the design to help fill the huge atrium void, have a synergy with the ground floor natural atmosphere and bring in a feeling of a summer’s day. The hand painted mural was created working from a spider platform, which enabled us to get to all the tricky areas of the pod. We created the part of the design that would go onto the glass section at our Windsor studio and had it digitally reproduced so we could print it onto optical clear film. The result is that the mural is seamless all around the pod.
The interior hand painted mural design has a more detailed illustration. We wanted to capture the beautiful Yorkshire countryside in a playful way, with lots of sporting activities going on within the landscape. We used the same colour palette as the exterior, which helped the two totally different looking murals sit together nicely.
For the glass manifestations we again used the wildflower theme, so they would tie in nicely with the rest of the space, designing them by hand and printing onto clear vinyl.
Both murals and the glass manifestations have helped transform the atrium space and the pod into a unique space for the HSBC staff to enjoy a summer vibe all year around.
